What You Should Know about Cloud Computing
Everybody talks about Cloud. Not cloud in the air nor cloud in the sea. This is cloud in term of technology. Cloud Computing technology.
So, what you gonna say about this cloud? Google talks about it. Microsoft also. And always all big companies talk about it in order to switch to its new technology.
But it’s not all shiny and clear about this new technology. Many articles and blogs also notice about its weaknesses, including security, privacy and durability. Some people also talks about safety and consistency. And one or more maybe afraid about its sustainability.
Below is the lists I make for you to understand about the typical points of cloud computing. But before we touch the points of it, I’ll explain about the cloud computing itself as an introduction about the cloud.
What is Cloud Computing?
According to Wikipedia, Cloud Computing is internet-(cloud-”) based development and use of computer technology. Why cloud? We know that technology used cloud (real cloud as the picture above) to symbolize the internet. And computing derived from the word “compute”. So, we can say that cloud computing is the computational done in the cloud. Hence, cloud computing is the term to refer the processing data in the cloud.
Why Cloud Computing?
Most of business in the world use internet to leverage their activities. They need the system to be up and running smoothly. Without any disturbance. Without any disruption. And the most important thing is without any disconnection. Cloud computing can assurance and guarantee its connectivity up to 99.99%. That’s why cloud is very important to the business and internet as a whole. But why so many people and company right now still thinking twice to enter the “cloud” area? Here comes the lists I and you and maybe they consider before moving into the cloud.
Points about Cloud Computing
- Security. This is the most important thing about the cloud. As we don’t have physical contact or access to the cloud itself, the security may have been compromised. I said “may” because we didn’t know whether the company operating the cloud is really responsible as they said on the term or not.
- Privacy. As we upload and process our data into the cloud, we give the possibility to others to access our data, legally or illegally. The fact is, everyone has an access to the cloud if they know how to access it. And of course, again, company which operating the cloud always know about our privacy. It then returns to the privacy policy the company provided to secure our privacy data.
- Sustainability. You will ensure your data, if you put it in the cloud, can be accessed whether now or in the future. Or you can go back and trace back. Cloud has the most sustainability where the desktop or hosting can’t afford now.
- Flexibility. Want to access your data on your own desktop? Friend’s laptop? Your mobile device? Tablet? Cloud avoided you to do the same synchronizing every times you access your data. It is already on the cloud. Why synchronizing?
There were so much much more about the cloud computing. Many experts debate still continue in order to find the right path about its destiny. The technology itself was fine, but the effect around it still cloudy. That’s why we also called the technology as “the cloudy computing.”

I didn’t get it.
So cloud is Internet itself?
